About the Program:
Study Tours International partners with The Brook Hill Alliance to offer immersive summer English language and travel programs for international high school students. Students receive English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction and participate in excursions and campus activities while residing at a university in North York, ON.
Position Summary:
The Cultural Exchange English Teacher is an independent contractor engaged by Study Tours International. While The Brook Hill Alliance assists with recruitment, all contracts are managed through Study Tours International. The Cultural Exchange English Teacher blends traditional language instruction with the role of student mentor, guide, and group supervisor. This role delivers engaging English lessons and also participates in on- and off-campus student activities, excursions, and general supervision. The position reports to the Centre Manager.
Dates of the Program:
Candidates should be available July 16 through 30, 2026. At a minimum, candidates must be available in the morning (8:15am-12:15pm) for the following class dates and times. Work outside the classroom would take place after class and/or on dates that classes are not taking place.
Session 1: July 17, July 18, July 20, July 21 and/or
Session 2: July 24, July 25, July 27, July 28
Compensation: Hourly contractor rate.
Key Responsibilities:
In the Classroom:
- Teach EFL classes using curriculum provided by The Brook Hill Alliance
- Supplement curriculum with engaging, level-appropriate materials
- Support student placement and oral proficiency assessments
- Create a fun, inclusive classroom environment focused on conversation and confidence-building
- Administer and grade standardized testing
- Maintain regular communication with the Centre Manager
Outside the Classroom:
- Serve as a chaperone during campus events and off-site excursions
- Lead student activities and encourage participation in social programming
- Facilitate conversations to support language development during meals, travel, and downtime
- Supervise students on buses, in residence halls, and at tourist sites
- Participate in student check-ins, orientations, and safety briefings
- Assist with group logistics including boxed meals, luggage coordination, and excursion prep
Contract Terms:
- Flexible availability required, including nights, weekends, and travel days
- Travel during program covered; travel to/from campus is contractor’s responsibility
Requirements:
- Authorization to work in Canada
- University degree required
- Teaching experience strongly preferred
- Experience working with youth in educational or recreational settings preferred
- Summer camp, tour guide, or international program experience preferred
- Energetic, enthusiastic, and highly adaptable
- Strong communication, supervision, and problem-solving skills
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift 11 kg, walk long distances and stairs, stand for extended periods, and participate in active programming
